Edmund Randolph, Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia:
To All to Whom these Presents shall Come, Greeting:
Know Ye, that by virture of a warrant issued from the late [Lord/Land
]Proprietors office of the Northern Neck and in consideration of the
ancient composition of one pound ten shillings sterling paid by Maunus
Alkire into the Treasury of this Commonwealth, There is granted by the
said Commonwealth unto the said Maunus Alkire a certain tract or parcel
of land Containing 304 acres by survey bearing date the 22" day of June
1780, lying and being in the County of Hampshire on the East side of the
South fork of the South Branch and bounded as followeth, To. wit.
Beginning at a white oak corner to Jacob Reed, thence along his line N.
380 poles to two Spanish Oaks and a dogwood corner to the said Reed
Colonel Mercer thence along his line E. 180 poles to two chesnut oaks
and three pines on a hill thence S. 220 poles to three pines and two red
oaks the same course continued 100 poles further cornered at two white
oaks a pine oak and [     ] on a level, thence S. 70 [ ] W. 191
poles to the Beginning, with its appurtenances.
To have and to hold the said Tract or Parcel of Land, with its
appurtenances, to the said Maunis Alkire and his heirs fovever,
In Witness Whereof, The said Edmund Randolph, Esquire, Governor of the
Commonwealth of Virginia, hath hereunto set his hand and caused the
Lesser Seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed, at Richmond, on the
12" day of Sept. in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and
Eighty Eight and of the Commonwealth the Thirteenth.
