DEATH OF JOHN D. ALKIRE
Aged Citizen of Brighton Called to
His Reward Yesterday-
Funeral Wednesday.

Brighton, Oct. 15 - (Special). -
John D. Alkire died yesterday morning at his home
at Brighton at the age of eighty-three years, the
cause of death being old age and the attending
infirmities. Mr. Alkire was born August 8, 1824
in Madison County, Ohio, and the next year moved
with his parents to Menard county, Illinois. In 1847
he was married to Sarah Wheeler, who lived but a
couple years after their marriage, dying in 1849. In
1851 Mr. Alkire was married a second time, this
time to Sarah Mance. They moved to this county
in 1856. The wife died in 1905, May 6th. Twelve
children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Alkire, seven
of whom are still living. They are Mrs. Jennie
Frain, of Brighton; Jacob Alkire, of Laquan, Ill.,
Mrs. Kate Smith of Atlantic; Mrs. Elliot of Rock
Island; Chester Alkire of Rappicee, Ill., Milun
Alkire of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Mrs. John
Marshall of Brighton, at whose home the father
died. Mr. Alkire was a member of the Christian
Church, having confessed his faith in Christ and
been baptized by John A. Cowell in 1847. He
died October 14, 1907, having fought the good
fight of faith, and has gone to reap his reward
with the many loved ones who have gone before.
The funeral will be held tomorrow, Wednesday
morning at 10 o'clock. Interment will be in
Brighton Cemetery.
