_______________
Was One of Oldest and Best Known Staley Employes.
JOHN WHITE
John White, 956 East Cantrell
street, yard foreman at the A. E.
Steley Manufacturing Co. and one
of the best known men in Decatur,
died at midnight Saturday night in
St. Mary's hospital from pneumonia
and complications after an illness of
about a week. He was taken to the
hospital Saturday morning.
Mr. White had literally been born
and reared at the Staley plant or on
its site. He was born Nov. 30, 1884
on a farm where the Staley plant
now stands, the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Humphrey White.
BORN ON FARM
His boyhood was spent on the farm
and when the Pratt Oil mill was
erected on the farm, he went to
work there and remained in the
plant's employ until the Wellington
Starch Works took over the plant.
When A. E. Staley started the present plant there, Mr. White entered
his employe and continued with that
company until the time of his death.
TWO CHILDREN
He was married on Feb. 12, 1918 to
Miss Minnie Protrafka, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Potrafka. His
wife and two sons, Henry John, aged
eight years and Gerald Louis, aged
three years, survive him.
In addition, he is survived by the
following brothers and sisters, William J. White, Mrs. F. A. Doolin, Mrs.
B. D. Davern and Mrs. J. Verday, all
of Decatur, and Arthur White of
Stewardson and Mrs. P. C. Gosnell of
Villa Grove.
LIKED BY ALL
Mr. White was an active member of
the Staley Fellowship club and of
St. Patrick's Catholic church. He was
loved and respected by his fellow
workers at the Staley plant and by all
who had come to know him during
his lifelong residence in Decatur.
The body was taken to Moran and
Sons and will be at the home Sunday afternoon when friends may call.
Funeral arrangements have not been
completed.
